Bekasi, Mata4.com – Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the Bekasi City DPRD, Wildan Fathurrahman, encouraged the Bekasi City Government to be more intensive in controlling the Social Welfare Service Recipients (PPKS). This step is intended to prevent Bekasi City from becoming a location that is considered comfortable for PPKS, especially adults who involve children in begging and busking activities on the streets.
Wildan said that community involvement is needed to suppress the practice. According to him, there are still many residents who give money to child beggars, so that handling efforts are less effective.
"If there are still many who give, it will be difficult. While there are no other alternatives to meet their needs," he said, Monday (6/5).
He said, this phenomenon has been discussed several times with the Bekasi City Social Service (Dinsos). Based on the results of the clean-up carried out by Dinsos and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the majority of adults and children who were secured were not residents of Bekasi City.
"When we asked for their population data, most of them were from outside the area. Finally, we brought them to our shelter in Mustikajaya, then we coordinated with the local government of their origin," explained Wildan.
However, the Bekasi City Government faces limited authority in preventing these PPKS from returning and repeating the same activities in the Bekasi area.
Wildan hopes that the provincial government and even the central government can pay more attention to this issue. He emphasized the importance of empowerment programs in the areas where PPKS come from so that children do not return to the streets.
"If there is no attention from the central government, this problem will continue to recur. There must be a long-term solution, especially for children," he concluded.
